It's easy to find tips to help you stop smoking. Everyone seems to have an opinion on things that you can do stop smoking but most of them aren't very helpful to someone that smokes and wants to quit but can't. Need some tips that will really help you get through the day and not smoke? Here are some practical tips on stopping smoking. Plan a "quit date" in advance -- Circle a day on your calendar to quit smoking. Knowing that your quit date is approaching will help you stick to you plan to quit. Tell everyone when you're quitting smoking -- Tell everyone you see on a daily basis that you're quitting smoking and what day you're quitting on. Tell friends and family and coworkers, the barista at the coffee bar, anyone that you see on a regular basis. That way if you're tempted to have a cigarette you won't indulge because someone that knows you're quitting will see you and you'll be ashamed of breaking your commitment to quit smoking. Shame is a great motivator. Chang your routine -- When you need a break from your work and you'd normally go have a cigarette try going for a walk around the office building instead, or go stand outside and just breathe the fresh air. Instead of lighting up when you get in the car turn on some music. In order to break free from the smoking addition you need to have new habits that you don't associate with smoking. Choose the right substitutes -- People will tell you to try munching carrot sticks or holding a pen in your hand to simulate a cigarette but all that is going to do is make you think of cigarettes. Instead look for other substitutes that won't remind you of cigarettes. Suck on some sugar free hard candy or chew some nicotine gum instead of munching carrots. Encourage your friends to quit -- Just like breaking a drug addiction if you want to stop smoking you have to stop hanging out with your friends that smoke. Instead of going out to smoke and catch up on the gossip during your work breaks encourage the group of smokers that can always be found outside smoking to have a cup of coffee inside with you and catch up on the gossip. As you can see, it can take a combination of tactics to successfully quit smoking. But quitting definitely is possible.
